As a hospice CEO for more than 30 years, this influential healthcare leader has been a longstanding grief care advocate. Known for her impactful and motivational delivery as an international speaker, Demetress has made a major investment in the lives of others through her compassionate spirit and unselfish attributes. 
 

For more than 35 years this impeccable leader has been cultivating initiatives to empower those faced with grief and end of life care. This Certified Grief Coach had multiple accolades during 2022, from her National Hospice Ambassador award, McKnight’s Women of Distinction and the Lifetime Merit Award from the Chamber of Commerce. These recent honors join a host of recognitions to include the 2017 Athena Award, End of Life Champion and her 2010 Texas & New Mexico Hospice Director’s award yet her humbling persona remains amazing. Demetress still finds countless hours to volunteer her time to assist other children as well as senior adults with bereavement support.

Demetress serves on many Boards, Committees and platforms here are a few of those: National Hospice and Palliative Care CEO steering committee, NHPCO Hospice Ambassador, Texas New Mexico Hospice Board, Texas Non-Profit Alliance Board, Rotary International District Governor, Catholic Health Initiatives – CommonSpirit Hospital Board Chair and the Texas Association of Homecare Diversity, Equity and Inclusion taskforce of which she is DEI certified, just to name a few of her vast commitments. Demetress has a webpage and social media page dedicated to her grief work named the Hword blog. Demetress has also written several books on grief much of which are devoted to children’s grief.
